The dairy had proposed this rise in procurement rates for dairy farmers which was accepted by the government.
Officer on special duty (OSD) Kashi Naik said procurement rates will be paid as per the fat and solids-not-fat (SNF) content in the milk procured. Normally, 4.2 to 4.6 % fat and 8.7% SNF content is found in milk available in Goa. Additional milk is sourced from Karnataka, he said.
Rates of standardised, cow and toned milk variants will be hiked by Rs 4 per liter and full cream (buffalo high fat) milk by Rs 5 a liter. However, since Goa Dairy has not yet finalised any supplier for buffalo milk, only three variants will be available in market on Sunday, he said.
With the price hike, a 500 ml packet of Shakti (standardised milk) that was available at Rs 25, will be sold at Rs 27 from Monday. Likewise, a packet of cow milk will be sold at Rs 25 per 500 ml instead of Rs 23 and a 500ml packet of Cold Gold (toned milk) will be priced at Rs 24 from the earlier Rs 22. After the hike of Rs 5 per liter, a packet of a liter of full cream milk will go up to Rs 62 from its earlier rate of Rs 57. The dairy will also sell a 450 ml packet of Cold Gold at Rs 22.
The dairy presently sell three variants — standardised milk ‘Shakti’ (green packet with 4.5% fat and 8.5% SNF), cow milk (red packets with 3.5% fat and 8.5% SNF) and toned ‘Cold Gold’ milk (blue packets with 3.0% fat and 8.5% SNF).
