Farmers call off stir after mins assure to look into demands

Ahmednagar MP Nilesh Lanke on Monday called off his agitation on the issues related to onion and dairy farmers. Lanke, along with onion and dairy farmers of the district, had started the agitation on July 5 in front of the district collector’s office.

District guardian minister Radhakrishna Patil and state NCP (SCP) chief Jayant Patil met Lanke and the agitating farmers and assured them of looking into their demands.

The farmers were protesting for the withdrawal of restrictions on onion exports and the introduction of a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for onions, apart from better prices for milk.

“We demand that the Centre should not impose an onion export ban again. Minister Vikhe-Patil assured us that the issues will be pursued with the Centre through state govt. Moreover, we are of the view that milk prices should be decided based on its production cost. Vikhe-Patil also has assured us that MSP will be introduced for the milk,” Lanke told mediapersons.

Meanwhile, Patil stated on the X platform: “I had also participated in the agitation on Sunday night when district guardian minister and state revenue minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil visited the site, where Lanke had launched the agitation. Vikhe-Patil promised Lanke of justice to farmers.”

“Vikhe-Patil has made a demand to the Centre that it should take care that the onion export ban does not happen again and it should also implement MSP policy for milk,” stated Patil.
