Milma’s Ernakulam Regional Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (ERCMPU) will be distributing silage feed at subsidised rates to dairy farmers affiliated to the milk cooperative societies under it in Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam and Idukki districts.
Each 50-kg packet of silage will contain finely-cut maize of high quality without preservatives or chemicals, authorities said.
Milk societies which supply more than 40 per cent of the milk procured from farmers to the regional union (ERCMPU) will be eligible for a subsidy of Rs 2 per kg. The rich-moist silage fodder will be distributed to the cooperatives according to their needs, ERCMPU Chairman M.T. Jayan said on Monday.
The price for the silage per kilogram (after the subsidy) is Rs 6.82 in Ernakulam district, Rs 6.72 (Thrissur), Rs 6.92 (Kottayam) and Rs 7.07 (Idukki). The additional requirements too will be made available without subsidy.
ERCMPU distributed dividends (three per cent of the share value) for 2022-23. The amounts were disbursed while paying members the price of the milk sold during the June 11-20 period, the chairman added.
