Expressing disappointment at Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (Aavin) for discontinuing 4.5% fat content milk
Consumers demand Aavin restore milk with 4.5% fat

Expressing disappointment at Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (Aavin) for discontinuing 4.5% fat content milk (green sachet), the Consumer Protection Council, Tamil Nadu has sought the dairy unit to resume production and supply of green sachet milk which was replaced by a new milk variant (delite) with 3.5% fat content.

The council also criticised state dairy minister Mano Thangaraj and Aavin management for the move.

From March 16, Aavin stopped supplying the brand’s most sought after variant (green sachet). As a replacement, delite milk (purple sachet) was introduced as a healthy variant. Since the consumers are unhappy with the change, the council said that Aavin could have introduced the 3.5% fat content milk as a new variant without stopping the 4.5% fat content milk.

Secretary of the council, S Pushpavanam said that Aavin has handed a double blow to the consumers by forcing them to pay an additional 1 for a litre of milk that too for a diluted variant. “If Aavin considers 3.5% fat content milk as healthy, they could have introduced it at a lower cost. The choice of choosing milk must be left to the consumer. Such a move without considering the opinions of the consumers would bring disrepute to the govt at the time of elections,” Pushpavanam said in a letter to the minister.
