CM inaugurates new milk plant in Gopalganj

Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a milk production plant with a capacity of one lakh litres per day at Bairia village under Kateya block in Gopalganj district.

The officials, through the site plan, provided detailed information to the CM about the benefits to local livestock farmers and employment opportunities for the people from the plant. After the foundation laying ceremony, the CM inspected stalls set up by the animal and fishery resources department, agriculture department, rural development department, COMFED, JEEViKA, education department and social welfare department. During the inspection, he distributed keys for battery-operated tricycles to beneficiaries under the Divyang Student Empowerment Scheme.

Nitish asked the officials concerned to complete the plant’s construction within the stipulated timeframe, emphasising the benefits it would bring to the locals. He highlighted the importance of preserving water and greenery and also talked about the importance of the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Mission.

“The state govt has approved the formation of 7,000 new milk cooperative societies in 2024-25 financial year under the Saat Nischay-2 Programme. A significant number of such milk societies have to be formed in Gopalganj district. The processing of milk in the local plant will encourage people to engage in dairy production. The plant, with a total project cost of Rs 53.64 crore, will cover an area of 10.81 acres,” a communique issued from the chief minister’s office (CMO) on Saturday said.

“The state govt is also providing subsidies for purchasing dairy animals. This plant will benefit not only the farmers in Gopalganj district but also approximately 50,000 farmers in Siwan and West Champaran districts,” the communique said.

Earlier, the state’s animal and fishery resources minister Renu Devi welcomed the CM with a bouquet, while the department’s principal secretary Dr N Vijayalakshmi presented a plant. The state’s water resources and parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, education minister Sunil Kumar, sugar cane industry minister and Gopalganj district incharge minister Krishnanandan Paswan, scheduled caste and scheduled tribe welfare minister Janak Ram, Gopalganj MP Alok Kumar Suman, managing director of the Bihar State Milk Co-operative Federation Raj Kumar and several other senior officers were present on the occasion.
