Pre-Election Cabinet Approval Funds Milk & Powder Facilities.
In a significant move ahead of upcoming elections, the Bihar cabinet, under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has approved a substantial budget of Rs 316 crore for the establishment of five new dairy plants across the state. This includes two dedicated milk powder plants. The strategic decision aims to dramatically increase the supply of quality milk, ensure timely delivery to consumers, and generate crucial local employment opportunities within Bihar’s agribusiness sector.
The approved funding, structured as a SIDBI Cluster Development Fund (SCDF) loan, follows a key proposal from the State Animal and Fish Resources Department. This financial allocation is specifically earmarked for various new facilities designed to bolster Bihar’s dairy infrastructure and expand its production capacity, signaling a major investment in the region’s dairy economics.
Breaking down the investment, the plan includes the setup of two large dairy plants, each with a substantial 2 lakh litre capacity. These will be strategically located in Darbhanga, costing Rs 71.32 crore, and Wazirganj (Gaya Ji), at Rs 50.27 crore. Furthermore, a third plant with a one lakh litre capacity will be established in Gopalganj district, with an allocation of Rs 54.73 crore, significantly enhancing regional milk processing capabilities.
Adding to the state’s processing power, two milk powder plants, each boasting a capacity of 30 metric tonnes, are also part of the ambitious project. These vital facilities will be constructed in Dehri-On-Sone (Rohtas), costing Rs 69.66 crore, and Sitamarhi districts, with a budget of Rs 70.33 crore. These additions will boost the state’s ability to handle surplus milk and cater to diverse dairy product markets.
This extensive initiative is set to deliver substantial benefits to milk producers across Bihar, promising improved market access and potentially better prices for their produce. Beyond immediate economic gains, the investment is expected to contribute broadly to the region’s overall economic development, particularly impacting rural employment and livelihood ahead of the crucial state assembly elections, solidifying the role of the dairy sector in Bihar’s growth.
