Dermatologist booked in Bengaluru over alleged social media claims accusing Nandini dairy products of toxicity, prompting industry pushback.
Bengaluru Doctor Booked Over Nandini Dairy Claims

Dermatologist faces police action for social media posts alleging health risks in Nandini milk products, sparking industry and consumer debate.

A Bengaluru-based dermatologist was officially booked by Malleshwaram police on February 19 for allegedly circulating misinformation about the safety of Nandini dairy products on social media, triggering a police case under public mischief and Information Technology Act provisions. The posts have drawn notable attention given the widespread consumption of the brand in Karnataka and beyond.

According to the complaint, the dermatologist’s videos and reels claimed that items such as Nandini cream buns, strawberry-flavoured powdered milk, and ready beverages contained toxic chemicals and artificial additives, lacking natural ingredients and posing long-term health risks like autoimmune diseases or cancer. These assertions directly challenged the credibility of one of India’s most recognised dairy portfolios.

The posts also questioned how such products secured approval from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), amplifying public concern over food safety and regulatory oversight. The allegations extended to criticising the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) — the government-owned cooperative behind Nandini — for purportedly prioritising profits over consumer health.

In response to the claims, KMF issued a firm denial through an official press release, calling the accusations “baseless and misleading.” The federation reiterated its strict adherence to food safety standards and statutory compliance, including approvals by FSSAI, and warned that the misinformation had sown unnecessary confusion among millions of loyal Nandini consumers.

For dairy sector stakeholders — from producers and manufacturers to food safety analysts — the case underscores the rising risks of brand reputational damage via social media and the importance of proactive communication around product safety and compliance in an era of rapid digital information exchange.
