Amul goes global Partners with Spain’s COVAP to debut in Europe

In a momentous step marking its arrival on the global dairy stage, Amul has officially entered the European market.

The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), under the iconic Amul brand, has signed a strategic partnership with Spain’s premier dairy cooperative, Cooperativa Ganadera del Valle de los Pedroches (COVAP), to launch its flagship fresh milk in Spain and across the European Union.

Launch Highlights in Spain

• Grand launch event hosted at the Embassy of India in Madrid, in the presence of dignitaries including Dinesh K. Patnaik (Indian Ambassador to Spain) and high‐ranking officials from Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture.

• Initial rollout in Madrid and Barcelona, followed by Malaga, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, Córdoba, and across to Lisbon, Portugal.

Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of GCMMF, emphasized: “This association will ensure all our Spanish consumers will be nourished and energised with the goodness of Amul Milk. This is the first time that Amul fresh milk is being launched in Europe, aligning with PM Modi’s vision to make Amul a global dairy brand.”

Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno, President of COVAP, observed: “This partnership benefitting not only our dairy farmer members but those in India as well … combining COVAP technology capabilities and high-quality milk with the Amul brand’s … international reputation.”

Cooperative Power, Global Vision

• COVAP, founded in 1959 in Córdoba, boasts over 2,000 farmer-members and processes over 400 million liters of milk annually, exporting to more than 30 countries including the US and UK.

• Amul stands as the world’s largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, with 3.6 million members, processing over 12 billion liters annually, operating 112 dairy plants, and achieving a turnover north of USD 11 billion. It ranks as the 8th-largest milk processor globally

Upcoming expansion into Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and potentially beyond, reflecting Amul’s ambition to cement itself as a global dairy powerhouse.

The move aligns with the United Nations’ 2025 International Year of Cooperatives, showcasing the strength of cooperative collaboration across continents.

Amul’s entry into the Spanish and Portuguese dairy markets epitomizes India’s rising global footprint, fuelled by its renowned cooperative farming model. By joining forces with COVAP, Amul brings not just a product, but a compelling story of farmer-first values, quality, and cross-border solidarity.
