Rajeshwari Hegade, a resident of Arasapura of Sirsi in the district is the woman who has done this unique achievement. She was born in an agricultural family and had normal cows at home. However, after getting married, she bought cows and started selling their milk at her husband’s household. Now she has 30 cows including indigenous, Jersey, Gir etc.
The cows give 100 litres of milk every day. In addition, the waste from farmland is given as feed to the cows. Selling of cow dung as manure has also increased her income. Rajeshwari sells milk at Rs 42 per litre and earns around Rs one lac per month from the sales of milk alone.
The manure that is manufactured is sold for Rs 600 for 50 kg. She has patented the cow milk as ‘Hulagola Akala Haalu’ and manure as ‘Shakti Savayava’. Both were marketed first in 2017. Now it is very popular in the district. Last year, Rajeshwari sold 50 tonnes of manure.
On the whole, Rajeshwari has shown that it is possible to earn a high standard of living through dairy farming.
