Amul rolls out AI-driven assistant to transform cattle care, farm management and income for 36+ lakh milk producers in Gujarat.
Amul, India’s leading dairy cooperative brand, is deploying artificial intelligence (AI) to extend real-time support directly to dairy farmers with its new digital assistant, “Sarlaben.” The platform aims to democratize access to actionable insights on cattle health, breeding, feed, vaccinations and relevant government schemes, marking a technological leap for producers at the grassroots level of the dairy value chain.
Integrated with existing cooperative systems like the Amul Automatic Milk Collection System (AMCS) and the Pashudhan application, Sarlaben delivers personalized guidance around the clock, tailoring responses to individual farmer needs. Accessibility is broad, with services available through the Amul Farmer mobile app — already adopted by over 1 million users — and via voice calls for farmers on feature phones or landlines, especially in Gujarati, the primary language of interaction.
Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is expected to formally launch the initiative, positioning Sarlaben as a critical tool to support dairy livelihoods and align with national digital empowerment goals. Amul’s leadership underscores that timely, verified information delivered through AI can improve animal productivity and bolster farm incomes, especially for women producers who make up the majority of beneficiaries.
The AI assistant’s intelligence is built on one of the most extensive cooperative data ecosystems in India. Amul’s digital infrastructure processes vast volumes of milk procurement records, veterinary treatment histories for millions of cattle, and tens of millions of artificial insemination events each year. It also integrates fodder production data derived from ISRO satellite imagery and periodic cattle census figures, enabling Sarlaben to offer precise, farm-specific recommendations.
With over 36 lakh milk producers across more than 18,500 villages in Gujarat — collectively supplying in excess of 350 lakh litres of milk daily — Sarlaben is poised to reshape engagement between cooperatives and producers. The initiative highlights how AI and data integration can strengthen dairy ecosystems by improving decision-making, enhancing animal health outcomes, and elevating livelihoods across the cooperative network.
