Chairing a meeting of concerned officials convened to discuss modalities for promotion of the Cooperatives in the Jammu division in tune with the Govt.’s commitment, the Director said that the promotion of cooperatives is vital for boosting rural economy, especially small and marginal farmers, weaker sections and women.

Citing the model of AMUL, he stressed that Dairy is one such sector which can develop immensely if pursued on the pattern of Cooperative societies thus helping in improving the income levels of associated dairy farmers and achieving rural prosperity.

Highlighting the importance of joint efforts, the Director impressed that officials from the Department of Cooperatives and Animal Husbandry Department should work in a collaborative manner to achieve maximum registrations of dairy farmers under the ambit of Milk-Cooperative Societies.

He further remarked that henceforth every proposal from the Department of Cooperatives in this regard will be taken up on priority.

Speaking on the occasion the Director further said that the Department of Animal Husbandry Jammu is running various welfare schemes for the dairy farmers, benefiting a vast population across the districts in Jammu province.

To capitalize over this, he directed the Chief Animal Husbandry officers to share the details of such beneficiaries with the respective Deputy Registrar Cooperatives so as to enable them to register more and more dairy farmers.

Officers from the Department of Cooperatives, in their address briefed the Chair about the initiatives taken by their department to register more farmers as cooperatives including facilitating involvement of youth in Cooperatives.

Deputy Director (AH), Deputy Director Planning (AHD), Deputy Registrar Department of Cooperatives Jammu/Samba/Kathua/Udhampur, Extension Officer (AHD), Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Jammu/Samba/Kathua/Udhampur along with their respective Vety.Assistant Surgeons designated as Nodal officers, Officers from the Technical section besides others were present during the meeting.
