Major adulterated milk racket uncovered in Tonk-Diggi supplying Jaipur, Ajmer markets.

Police in Rajasthan have cracked a large-scale milk adulteration operation after raiding an illegal factory in Diggi town that was producing synthetic, adulterated milk on an industrial scale. Authorities say the operation was run by individuals allegedly from outside the region and had been quietly supplying spurious milk to major markets, raising serious public health concerns.

Investigators estimate that this illicit plant was manufacturing up to 80,000 litres of fake milk every day, distributing it across Jaipur, Ajmer and Tonk districts. In the raid, police seized about 5,500 litres of adulterated milk, five pickup trucks and one milk tanker used in distribution, signalling the extensive reach of the network.

The materials found at the site revealed how the counterfeit product was manufactured: water was mixed with milk powder and lactose for colour, while soybean oil, palm oil and Dalda ghee were added to simulate fat content. Most dangerously, caustic soda — a highly alkaline chemical — was used to prevent spoilage and give the mix a “fresh” appearance, posing severe health risks to consumers.

Five suspects were arrested during the operation, with local police confirming FIRs and ongoing investigations aimed at unraveling the broader supply chain. Tonk police highlighted that the alleged mastermind, named in initial reports, was still at large, and that further arrests and arrests linked to distribution networks were expected as the probe continues.

This incident adds to a broader pattern of dairy adulteration enforcement in Rajasthan and across India, where sub-standard and unsafe dairy products have increasingly been exposed by food safety authorities. Recent actions include large seizures of adulterated ghee stocks and inspection drives targeting unsafe milk and dairy goods, indicating regulatory pressure on illegal operations.
