Mleiha Dairy Factory and Farm set a global record with 6,400 A2A2 cows and 100,000 L/day output.
Sharjah’s ruler, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, officially inaugurated the Mleiha Dairy Farm and Factory, a state-of-the-art dairy production complex in the UAE designed to enhance the emirate’s food security and public health. The 20,000 m² facility combines large-scale milk production with modern processing, aimed at supplying locally and potentially regionally in the future.
The Mleiha project achieved a Guinness World Record as the world’s largest A2A2 cattle farm, housing more than 6,400 A2A2-genotype cows, which naturally produce milk containing only the A2 beta-casein protein. This protein profile is often marketed internationally for its purported ease of digestion compared with milk containing both A1 and A2 proteins — a factor of growing interest in dairy markets focused on functional and premium nutrition.
At the launch ceremony, Sheikh Dr Sultan described the dairy farm and factory as a 65-year dream realised, emphasizing that the project prioritises community health and food self-sufficiency over commercial profit. The integrated site includes milking parlours capable of handling several hundred cows per hour, modern packaging lines for milk, yoghurt and labneh, and eco-friendly packaging systems that meet international sustainability standards.
The facility’s operational capacity — including milking systems, central control rooms, animal housing and silage preparation lines — supports a projected daily milk output of about 100,000 litres. Sharjah’s leadership highlighted the role of such infrastructure in strengthening local dairy value chains, reducing dependence on imports and cultivating expertise in agribusiness, with parallel support from educational programmes in agriculture and veterinary sciences.
Beyond dairy, Sharjah’s broader food strategy includes olive cultivation, poultry and vegetable production projects that use original seeds and natural methods, underscoring an integrated vision for sustainable food systems and regional agricultural resilience. The Mleiha initiative also aligns with rising consumer interest in natural, high-quality dairy products, positioning Sharjah as a notable player in premium A2 milk production for domestic and export markets.
