The dairy world analyzes its present and future at the IDF World Dairy Summit 2025.
With a call to lead the future of the dairy sector worldwide, the president of the International Dairy Federation, Gilles Froment, invited more than 800 participants from 44 countries. This community gathered in Santiago for the opening of the World Dairy Summit, the IDF World Dairy Summit 2025.
For the first time in the 123 years of the International Dairy Federation, South America welcomed representatives of the global dairy sector to this annual meeting. From October 20th to 23rd, Santiago will host the IDF WDS Chile 2025, the World Dairy Summit, organized by the IDF (International Dairy Federation) National Committee, comprised of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Dairy Consortium, and Fedeleche.
On the afternoon of the first day, the Paris Declaration on Dairy Sustainability will be addressed, an initiative of the IDF and FAO to drive the sustainable transformation of the global dairy sector.
“Nourishing a Sustainable World” is the motto of this summit, which was a key part of the opening speech by FIL-IDF President Gilles Froment.
“The selection of Chile as our host for this year’s IDF World Dairy Summit reflects not only the dynamism and evolution of its dairy industry, but also its deep commitment to sustainability, innovation, and international collaboration. This summit is a tribute to Chile’s remarkable progress. It is also a powerful platform to inspire the next wave of development across Latin America and emerging dairy regions around the world,” explained Gilles Froment.
*Dairy products help feed billions of people, improving child growth, supporting family health, strengthening communities, and contributing to the fight against malnutrition. Today, production is facing numerous challenges in terms of increasing demand and the climate crisis, and at FAO, we believe that innovation is the key to this response. “Together, we can achieve better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life for all, leaving no one behind,” said FAO Assistant Director-General Thanawat Tiensin.
In Chile, Minister of Agriculture Ignacia Fernández explained the development of the dairy sector and her vision for sustainability. “Recent years have been years of good production, because there has been sufficient pasture and grazing capacity, but climate change certainly means that we cannot be sure that every year will be the same. “That’s why investment in innovation, research, and technologies is so important to improve sustainability standards, but also productivity standards, which is precisely the type of issues discussed at these meetings and which we as a government address through the Chile Origen Consciente seal,” stated the Minister of Agriculture, Ignacia Fernández.
At the opening ceremony, Sergio Niklitschek, president of the Organizing Committee and president of the Dairy Consortium, highlighted the value of this meeting for the global dairy sector. “We will have the opportunity to renew our knowledge, the opportunity to discuss what will happen in the dairy sector in the next 10 years, and, very importantly, we will have the opportunity to expand and strengthen our global network of connections,” he stated.
After a tour of the various stands, the opening day included the World Leaders Forum with the participation of Antonia Wanner, Nestlé’s global head of sustainability; Claudio Rodríguez Huaco, CEO of the Gloria Group; and Andrew, New Zealand’s Minister of Biosecurity and Food Safety. Hoggard.
On the same day, the World Dairy Situation was held, where participants will learn about the various key aspects of the sector globally. It was presented by Octavio Oltra (Chile); Jean Marc Chaumet (France); Hubertus Gay (OECD); and Jean Christophe Salles, Regional CEO of IPSOS.
The IDF WDS 2025 will be a historic meeting for Chile and South America, which is hosting this event for the global dairy sector for the first time.
