The dairy giant’s first facility in Himachal Pradesh is nearing completion in Nadaun, poised to stimulate regional livestock farming and create 50 jobs.
The cooperative behemoth Amul is on the brink of completing a significant ₹11-crore investment in Nadaun, Himachal Pradesh (HP), marking a strategic entry into the state’s dairy sector. This state-of-the-art processing facility, located in the Rit village of the Nadaun assembly segment—the native constituency of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu—is approximately 90% complete. The project underscores Amul’s commitment to industrial area development and is designed to create substantial direct and indirect agribusiness employment across the region.
The primary objective of the new one-acre plant is to provide a stable and profitable market for Himachal Pradesh‘s livestock farmers. Initial operations, slated to begin within the next two months, will focus on producing core dairy products including milk, yogurt (curd), and lassi. As production scales up to meet market demand, the plant plans to diversify its offerings, including the eventual manufacture of sweets, signaling a long-term interest in regional value addition.
The sourcing strategy for raw milk is designed for phased expansion and maximum regional benefit. Initially, Amul will source milk from the neighboring districts of Bilaspur, Una, and Sirmaur. However, the long-term vision articulated by Paras, the plant head, is to eventually integrate farmers from other HP districts as demand for the processed goods grows. This structured approach ensures a gradual integration of local dairy supply chains into Amul‘s national network.
Amul‘s physical establishment marks a significant milestone as it is the cooperative’s first full-scale milk processing facility in the state of Himachal Pradesh. This move is widely expected to bolster the state’s dairy economy by providing a reliable and large-scale procurement partner for local producers. The immediate creation of around 50 direct jobs signals an initial boost to the local economy of Nadaun and Hamirpur district.
In a direct appeal to the producer community, Plant Head Paras has urged local livestock farmers to prepare their supply channels for the imminent operational start. The successful launch of this plant promises to offer a sustainable and dependable livelihood opportunity for thousands of dairy producers across Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts, further cementing Amul’s role as a driver of rural economic empowerment.
