Asia’s largest cooperative partners with eVerse.AI to slash emissions from 3 million cattle in world’s biggest reduction program.
Banas Dairy, Asia’s largest dairy cooperative operating renowned brands including Amul, Banas, Umang, and Bhumi Amrit, has launched the groundbreaking Banas Methane Management Program (BMMP) targeting unprecedented 30% methane emissions reduction from its 3 million livestock animals annually. Under Chairman Shankar Chaudhary’s visionary leadership, this ambitious initiative positions sustainability as a core pillar in fulfilling the cooperative’s mission of “Harvesting Happiness” for farmers while establishing one of the world’s largest methane reduction programs in the global dairy sector.
The strategic partnership with eVerse.AI, a pioneering climate technology company specializing in livestock solutions, leverages cutting-edge AI-powered platforms including ConnectedCow and GreenCow digital MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) systems. eVerse.AI brings proven expertise from their successful Maharashtra Methane Mission (M3), registered with Verra carbon registry, which targets methane reduction from 20 million animals and generates over 20 million carbon credits annually with support from prestigious US universities and global climate foundations.
The BMMP addresses critical environmental imperatives, as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) data reveals global livestock emissions contribute 7.1 gigatons of CO2 equivalent annually, representing 14.5% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Methane, being 80 times more potent than CO2 over a 20-year timespan, poses severe environmental threats primarily through enteric fermentation and manure management processes, making immediate action essential for climate change mitigation in the dairy industry.
The comprehensive program utilizes natural plant-derived feed additives integrated with the National Dairy Development Board’s (NDDB) Ration Balancing Program (RBP) to achieve dual objectives of reducing methane emissions by 30% while simultaneously improving milk yield by 10-12%. This innovative approach demonstrates how sustainable dairy practices can deliver both environmental benefits and enhanced productivity, creating value for farmers while contributing to global climate goals through science-backed technological solutions.
Banas Dairy’s climate commitment extends beyond emissions reduction to encompass broader sustainable agriculture practices that create environmental benefits for future generations. Managing Director Sangram Chaudhary emphasized the cooperative’s unwavering commitment to climate-friendly dairy operations, while eVerse.AI CEO Ashish Sonkusare highlighted their mission to drive positive impact at massive scale through technology integration, positioning this collaboration as a leadership model for methane reduction across India’s vital dairy sector.
