Krishna Milk Union Pledges to Empower 5,465 Rural Families, Highlighting the Dairy Sector’s Critical Role in Economic Development and Social Change in India.

In a pioneering move that is a powerful case study for the agribusiness sector, the Krishna Milk Union has pledged to “adopt” and guide 5,465 families in a significant step toward poverty alleviation. This initiative, part of the state government’s innovative P4 (Public-Private-People-Partnership) program, aims to transform rural communities by fostering sustainable dairy farming. The union’s commitment reflects a growing recognition of the dairy industry’s potential to drive economic prosperity and create employment in rural areas.

The ambitious plan, which was announced during a community outreach program, will target families across multiple mandals, including Vatsavai, Penuganchiprolu, Vissannapeta, Vijayawada Rural, and Chandarlapadu. As a critical piece of data journalism, the article notes the specific number of families to be adopted in each region. Krishna Milk Union Chairman Chalasani Anjaneyulu stated that the union will conduct an economic assessment of each family to provide tailored and comprehensive support.

The support package is designed to be multi-faceted and aims to empower families to become self-sufficient. Key components include interest-free loans of up to ₹1 lakh through the KDCC for the purchase of dairy cattle. The union will also provide essential resources such as fodder and veterinary services. In a forward-thinking move, the union will establish community dairy units, or Gokulams, to facilitate collective, sustainable dairy farming, thereby strengthening the local dairy economics.

In a related initiative, the union has also launched a ₹1 crore scheme to supply one lakh subsidized sexed semen doses. This project is specifically aimed at improving the quality of cattle breeding and boosting milk production, which will directly benefit the adopted families and other dairy farmers in the region. The union’s commitment to providing family health services further underscores its holistic approach to community development.

District Collector G Lakshmisha praised the union for its powerful commitment to the rural economy. This effort demonstrates how dairy cooperatives can serve as vital agents of social change, leveraging their resources and expertise to help eliminate poverty. The Krishna Milk Union’s program offers a compelling model for the international dairy community, showing how a public-private partnership can create thousands of direct and indirect jobs and reshape the rural economic landscape.
