The Belagavi Milk Union (BEMUL), the major supplier of Nandini brand of milk to Goa, has recorded its highest-ever financial achievement, posting a profit of Rs 13.26 crore for the financial year 2024–25.
While trying to improve to consolidate on its profits in future, the BEMUL is also trying to promote its sales in Goa.
Speaking at a news conference held here, Arabhavi MLA and BEMUL President Balachandra Jarkiholi stated that BEMUL is a symbol of the farmers’ trust and confidence.
“The union’s total turnover for the year stood at Rs 399.5 crore, which is a 24% increase compared to last year’s Rs 320.83 crore,” Jarkiholi said, attributing this success to efficient management, cost control, and the implementation of farmer-friendly technologies.
“The current daily average milk procurement stands at 2.1 lakh litres, reflecting a 22% increase. Sale of milk in flexi-packs reached 80 lakh litres, a 196% increase. Supplies outside the state are also rising gradually with supplies to Goa standing at 36,000 litres per day,” Jarkiholi informed.
Jarkiholi also revealed a proposal to establish a hi-tech mega dairy with an estimated cost of Rs 350 crore, and land identification for the project is underway. The project will include the procurement of bactofuge machines, CBMM units, cold storage facilities, packaging machines, and expansion of chilling centres, he informed.
When asked about the Nandini Milk price rise in Goa on par with Karnataka, Managing Director Dr Srikant V N said a decision from the head office at Bengaluru is awaited in this regard.
