Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation’s (KCMMF) governing body has decided to give a subsidy of Rs 300 per sack of Milma Gold cattle feed distributed through dairy societies, Milma Chairman KS Mani said on Thursday.
The subsidy will be provided for the cattle feed to be sold in March. The subsidy is increased to 300 from Rs 100 given by Milma currently.
The subsidy will be a relief to dairy farmers who are struggling with the increased production cost, said Mani. Milma is committed to improving the productivity and distribution of milk in the state by supporting dairy farmers, he added.
Besides the subsidies given by Milma’s Malabar and Thiruvananthapuram regional unions, the Milma Federation has been providing a subsidy of Rs 100 per sack for Milma cattle feed from 2024 September, which is the same as the rate five years ago. With increased subsidies, cattle feed prices will be further reduced.
For the first time in history, some of Milma’s regional unions give cattle feed subsidies and increased milk buying rates to farmers for a year without interruption.
