In a recent inspection conducted on February 1, 2025, the State-level Task Force team identified multiple critical violations at Shakti Milk and Milk Products in Raghunathpally Mandal, Jangaon district. The Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana, reported that food handlers were not adhering to adequate sanitary measures during processing and handling. The inspection revealed structural issues, including a patchy roof and floor in the cold storage room and the presence of pests such as houseflies and mosquitoes in stored ghee. A dead lizard was found near food articles, and spider webs were observed on the roof.
Pest control records and water analysis reports were unavailable. Equipment used in the dairy was found to be unclean, rusted, and unsterilized. Raw food items were stored in a haphazard manner, and certain labeling defects were observed on packed products. The inspection led to the discarding of 720 kg of curd due to contamination, fungal infestation, and spoilage. Additionally, 1,700 kg of curd was seized due to labeling violations and suspicion of substandard quality.
Headquartered at Jangaon, Shakti Milk and Milk Products, also known as Shakti Dairy, is one of Telangana’s leading suppliers of dairy products, selling 40,000 litres of milk and yogurt daily across the state, including Hyderabad, according to the dairy’s website.
Samples were collected for laboratory analysis, and further action will be taken as per the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, and the FSS Rules and Regulations, 2011.
The shocking revelations during the inspection have raised concerns about food safety and hygiene in the region. Authorities have assured strict action against violations and emphasized the importance of maintaining proper sanitary conditions in food processing units. Consumers have been urged to remain cautious and report any suspected malpractices to food safety authorities.
