Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said Wednesday the state govt is committed to empowering farmers and livestock owners by enhancing water and electricity access. Addressing a pre-budget meeting at the chief minister’s office with representatives of farmers, livestock owners and dairy associations, Sharma emphasised the govt’s focus on ensuring essential resources for agricultural sustainability.
The chief minister highlighted that MoUs worth Rs 2.24 lakh crore were signed to make Rajasthan energy self-reliant, ensuring that farmers will receive daytime electricity by 2027. Farmers, through their relentless hard work, ensure food security for the state and the country.
Supporting their growth and empowerment is a key priority for the govt. Agriculture and allied sectors contribute 30% to the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and provide employment to nearly 85 lakh families across Rajasthan, he said.
Assuring stakeholders of the timely completion of key water projects, Sharma said, “The Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP-PKC), Yamuna Water Agreement, Mahi Dam Project, and Dewas Project will ensure sufficient irrigation water for farmers, helping them in their efforts to double their income. The govt aims to equip farmers with advanced agricultural techniques by sending progressive farmers abroad for training.”
He stressed that Rajasthan is implementing agri-tech solutions to tackle farming challenges through digital innovations and announced that, starting Feb 5, farm registry camps will be organised across all Gram Panchayats in phases.
He highlighted that more than 3.2 million women farmers received free seed minikits, while Rajasthan remains among the leading states in the country for installing solar-powered pump sets.
Sharma further stated that under the Rajasthan Cooperative Gopal Credit Card Loan Scheme, livestock farmers engaged in dairy activities can avail interest-free short-term loans of up to Rs 1 lakh for purchasing dairy-related equipment, fodder, and other necessities. He said that under the Chief Minister Dairy Producer Assistance Scheme, financial assistance is being directly transferred to beneficiaries through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
