
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The police and the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) have busted a milk adulteration racket in Ashti taluka of Beed district and recovered nearly 600 gunny bags of powders (adulterants).
The market value of the seized adulterants is around Rs 25 lakh, police said.
The crackdown took place at three godowns in remote areas on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
Assistant police inspector with Ashti police, Vikrant Hinge, said two accused have been arrested in connection with the milk adulteration scam.
“One accused ran a milk collection plant while another owns a shop that sells cattle feed. Acting on a tip-off, we raided the cattle feed shop to seize around 25 gunny bags of milk adulterants. Similar raids were carried out at two other shops. We recovered around 600 gunny bags of adulterants,” he said.
Two godowns from Kada and one from Takali Amba have been sealed. Police said the adulterants include Potassium Hydroxide, Citric Acid, Amorphous powder, and whey powder.
Ashti police said panchanamas of different raided locations were completed by Sunday night.
