Suzuki Motor Corporation has entered into a significant partnership with Banas Dairy and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to enhance sustainable energy solutions in India.
A three-party Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed among Suzuki R&D Center India Private Limited—a wholly owned subsidiary of Suzuki, NDDB, and Banas Dairy—to establish a fifth biogas production facility in Banaskantha district, Gujarat.
The MoU signing ceremony took place at Banas Dairy’s Sanadar Plant, attended by notable figures including Banas Dairy’s Chairman Shankar Chaudhary, NDDB’s Executive Director S Rajeev, and Suzuki’s President Toshihiro Suzuki. The event drew approximately 2,500 local dairy farmers, emphasizing the community’s robust engagement with the project.
This new biogas plant is part of a broader initiative to introduce four additional biogas production facilities in the region, with the dual aim of producing renewable energy and fostering rural mobility by utilizing biogas as fuel for Maruti Suzuki’s CNG vehicles. The initiative will kick-start in Banaskantha district, providing clean and affordable transportation options to its rural communities.
In a further development, Toshihiro Suzuki unveiled the ‘Bhoomi Amrut’ brand logo and introduced ‘Power Plus’—a nutrient-rich liquid organic manure—during a farmers’ conclave at the same location. This product is generated fr om the biogas plant’s operations and is intended to offer a sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizers, thereby supporting enhanced soil fertility and increased agricultural productivity.
The Banas Biogas Plant is a cornerstone of this initiative, designed to convert organic waste into biogas and organic manure. The project not only addresses waste management challenges but also supports the reduction of the carbon footprint associated with traditional farming practices. Moreover, the biogas produced is envisioned as a clean and renewable energy source for local use, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting a circular economy model wh ere agricultural waste is transformed into valuable energy and agricultural inputs.
