Vadodara: Dairy giant Amul has signed as the regional sponsor of the Argentina football team for the FIFA World Cup beginning in Qatar on November 20.

This is the first regional sponsorship deal in India in the history of Argentine soccer.

“Amul is proud to announce its association with the Argentina Football Association (AFA),” said Jayen Mehta, COO of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation. In a statement, AFA president Claudio Fabian Tapia said, “We are happy to have Amul being AFA’s first regional sponsor in India.”

FIDE to form panel to look into cheating allegations:

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) said it will convene a three-person panel to look into world champion Magnus Carlsen’s allegations that American player Hans Niemann had cheated. Carlsen, 31, withdrew from the Sinquefield Cup in St Louis, Missouri earlier this month after losing to the 19-year-old, who lags him by almost 200 Elo points – the rating system used to calculate the relative skill level of players.

Naseem Shah to travel to NZ:

Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah will travel with the team to New Zealand next week after completing two-day isolation at home because of Covid-19, the Pakistan Cricket Board said on Friday.

Shah tested positive and will miss the remaining two T20s against England at Lahore. He spent two nights in the hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia but the fast bowler said in a tweet he was “feeling better and recovering well.”
