Valamji Humbal, founder chairman of the Kutch District Milk Producers Union Limited popularly known as Sarhad Dairy, has been appointed as a board member of National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL). Humbal is also vice-chairman of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF).
NCOL is new national-level multi-state cooperative set up to provide thrust to organic products from cooperative sector by acting as umbrella organisation for managing various activities related to organic sector.
The first annual general board meeting of NCOL was held on Monday on the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) campus in Anand. GCMMF had sent the nomination of Humbal. His nomination was supported by NDDB chairman Meenesh Shah and National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation Limited (NAFED) chairman Bijendra Singh. In January, the Union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved the decision of setting up and promoting the national-level cooperative society for organic products under the Multi State Cooperative Societies (MSCS) Act, 2002.
“Any cooperative institution from primary to national level societies, including district-, state- and national-level federation, multi-state cooperative societies, and farmers producer organisations can become members of NCOL,” said Humbal.
