Chief minister Ashok Gehlot will launch the “Lumpy Disease Economic Assistance Distribution” programme on June 16, said agriculture and animal husbandry minister Lalchand Kataria. An amount of about Rs 180 crore would be directly transferred to the accounts of around 50,000 eligible dairy farmers as compensation for the death of cows due to lumpy disease. Each dairy farmer will get compensation of Rs 40,000 for a maximum of two milking cows’ death.
Kataria informed that during the Rajasthan Kisan Mahotsav to be held on June 16 at JECC (Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre), Sitapura, the state-level “Lumpy Disease Economic Assistance Distribution” programme will be launched by the CM during the function.
He said that the outbreak of lumpy disease was almost in the entire country and thousands of bovines died, but keeping in view the problems of the dairy farmers, the state government had announced in the budget to provide financial assistance to the dairy farmers.
He said that Rajasthan is the first state to do this and other states should also take care of the interests of cattle herders on these lines.
Kataria said that now the Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Pashu Bima Yojana is being implemented so that no disease like lumpy causes financial loss to the dairy farmers and they could do animal husbandry without any risk. Under the scheme two milch cows or buffaloes are being insured free of cost for Rs 40,000 per animal.
He said that Chief minister Kamdhenu Pashu Bima Yojana would play an important role in establishing new dimensions in the field of animal husbandry in the state.
