KMF MD warns milk unions of action if farmers are not compensated fairly

Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) managing director B. Shivaswamy has warned the milk producers’ unions of stringent action if farmers are not given a fair remuneration for supplying milk.
Mr. Shivaswamy, who visited the BMC centre in Ilwala, the women’s milk producers’ union in Eerappana Koppal, and the milk producers’ union in Ratnahalli near here on Friday, asked the unions to ensure that the farmers are paid remuneration as per the fat and SNF (solid not fat) content in the milk. He warned them against causing inconvenience to the farmers in any manner.
He said farmers are the ones who feed the country, and they should not face injustice. Treat the milk producers with respect and ensure that they receive timely payment for the milk they supply.
Under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s guidance, the KMF was functioning well, and its products were being marketed outside Karnataka, in Delhi and other States, Mr. Shivaswamy said.
Mymul officials also accompanied the KMF officials on the occasion.
It may be mentioned here that the State government increased the price of milk by ₹4 a litre earlier this month. However, the increase was intended to benefit farmers, who had been seeking a hike in prices due to the rising costs of production.
The Cabinet had approved the hike citing growing demand from the farmers following an increase in the input costs, including fodder and feed by 35% to 40%.
