HC transfers Aavin job racket case to CBI

Madras high court on Monday transferred the probe into the alleged Aavin job racket case against former AIADMK Minister K T Rajenthra Bhalaji to the CBI. Justice P Velmurugan passed the order since the Virudhunagar police failed to report any development in the case despite court orders.

According to the prosecution, two separate FIRs were registered against the former minister, two of his personal assistants, and an associate in connection with the alleged job racket.

It was alleged that 3 crore was collected from 23 victims, promising jobs in Aavin when Rajenthra Bhalaji was milk and dairy minister during the previous AIADMK govt between 2016 and 2021. He was booked for offences including criminal conspiracy, cheating, and criminal intimidation.

In Jan 2022, the former minister was arrested from a hideout in Karnataka after the high court rejected his anticipatory bail application. The present order was passed on a plea moved by Ravindran, one of the complainants, alleging there was no development in the investigation of the case, which has been pending since 2021. He alleged Rajenthra Bhalaji, by using his political influence, managed to delay the filing of the chargesheet against him in the case.
